I believe we make an error to say the year ends and another begins. I believe it’s a fusion – a continuation of life, of dreams, of prospects and a renaissance. Maybe, some consider it as a new volume in life’s novel; a rebirth of second chances, a nascent unfurling of talents, and a compilation of history with memories that transcends a lifetime.
How can we forget that the past can shape our future?
African Women in Leadership Organization (AWLO) believes that there are deep lessons to learn from our errors, our failures or successes, our losses or gains. I wish for us that instead of embalming the events of the year 2016, or panel beating our frail psyche, we receive a new opportunity to set fresh goals, to adapt to the changing times, to discover, to learn, to receive new insight and creatively paint on the canvas of tomorrow.
How can we forget that faulty foundations can cause a collapse of built dreams? AWLO constantly reminds all African Women of Worth to unlearn, relearn and learn. Telling your unique stories and achievements serve as motivation to others, it clarifies our goals, and reinforces our determination to succeed in the new year. So as we count the seconds with each step, we pray for wisdom to rebuild destroyed dreams.
How can we lay aside worthy virtues and expect integrity of character?
AWLO believes we can start again. That instead of thinking it is too late to start, we think of when to begin. We think of where to seek for new knowledge. We gather our strength like a loincloth, tuck in our resolve like dress shirts and polish our potentials in the forging furnace of a blacksmith. We emerge all polished, branded, and coiffured in readiness on the new stage presented by the new year.
That is AWLO’s mindset on how to start a New Year. Not taken by surprises, not cowed by the storms of life, not drenched by the rains nor scorched by the sun, not defeated by the twists, turns and curves of fate. That we work collectively, not only for the success of our immediate environment, but for the success of all humanity.
Therefore as the universe unites under the banner of great expectations, with hearts attuned to the hopes of a better future, humanity eagerly welcomes the genesis of 2017; wrapped in glittering colors of hope and faith, delivered in fresh scents of novelty, for love instead of hatred, for peace instead of war, and for prosperity instead of poverty.
On behalf of the regional coordinators, management and entire staff and members of AWLO, I humbly and prayerfully bid you a gloriously prosperous 2017! May good health and peace fill our hearts and may love and empathy guide our association with each other.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
