AWLO Abuja Chapter Youth Council Launch In News

New AWLO Youth Council Launched in Abuja

More and more Chapters of the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO) Youth Council are springing up, thereby giving momentum to the vision of AWLO. The African Women in Leadership Organisation which launched its Youth Council last year in a bid to include the next generation in the grand scheme of developing effective female leaders for Africa, has launched its Abuja Chapter Youth Council yesterday at the Nicon Luxury Hotel Abuja.

This event facilitated the familiarization of the youth with the vision and mission of AWLO, which they readily resonated with, as some found it to align with their personal ambition. “My aspiration is to be a woman of worth, who is going to contribute and give back to the society and also develop myself to be a better leader.” said Mrs Mary Ochigbo a member of the Youth Council. They also pledged their commitment to the fulfillment of the organizational goals. “I promise to walk the talk”, said Ms. Lois Dandam.

Hon. Elisha Attai, the founder of AWLO, in his speech, described AWLO Youth Council as a continuum to bridge the gap of female leadership and cultivate young women between ages 18 and 35 into worthy assets of leadership for the continent. He presented how the AWLO Youth Council was structured for effective impact from The Global Matron, Country Matrons, Country Presidents, Chapter Coordinators and Executives, and being driven by dynamite youth council members. He also recognized the Global Youth Matron of AWLO, Dr. Violet Arene in absentia for inspiring the AWLO Youth Council Movement.

The Abuja Chapter Coordinator Ms. Doris Joseph also welcomed the youth, which she put through AWLO’s objectives. She and her team put together a successful inaugural event. The Abuja Youth council will be led by the Youth Council Coordinator – Ms Patience Diana Dangaru.
In attendance also were AWLO Executives; Mrs. Ajoke Enebeli- AWLO Rivers State Chapter Coordinator and Mr. Chidi Jacobs, Director Capacity Building & Strategy.

The Keynote Speaker Barr. Timipre Wolo spoke on ‘Overcoming the fear factor’ a limiting factor in self actualization in the lives of young people. Barr. Julie Donli- The DG of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP also spoke on the spate of female trafficking, and how it is limiting women from attaining their full potential. She encouraged youths to be invested in empowering themselves so as not to fall prey. Nanneh Kemte-Giadom also encouraged young women to explore opportunities in business for empowerment. The floor was also open for Q & A.

The AWLO Youth Council is a breath of fresh air to young women in Abuja as it will channel their potentials, and prepare them to emerge as well-grounded leaders for Africa. The Abuja Chapter Youth Council Coordinator, Ms Dangaru expressed her pleasure about this development, and she said; “The missions and vision of AWLO has is a revelation for youths especially women to see and pursue careers, that can add value and enhance the role of women in nation building. There has an immediate show of willingness to register and become members of AWLO by the Youths and this is a good sign. it would be a marvel to see that Youths especially women are engaged in national discuss and dialogue.”

She also shared a bit on their exciting agenda, “We’ll be having more registered youths, and creating awareness in Secondary Schools on hygiene, leadership, scholarship and women empowerment.”
