To wrap up the year, the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO) converged at Rivers State Nigeria, in a gallant Induction/End of Year Dinner.
The 2016 Induction/End of Year Dinner, hosted by AWLO Rivers State Chapter; and led by the Coordinator Mrs. Ajoke Enebeli, also coincided with the birthday of the Founder, Hon. Elisha Attai.
To mark these, there was a line-up of events beginning with a thanksgiving service on 14th December, 2016, at Crystal Vine Church Port Harcourt. The Service which held on the eve of the founder’s birthday/induction dinner was to celebrate his life, and a fulfilled 2016 for AWLO.
On the 15th of December, AWLO began the day by showering the Global Foundation for Orphans with love, still in the spirit of marking the founder’s birthday. The Global Foundation for Orphans is run by Mr. and Mrs. Cliff, a couple passionate about raising orphaned children as their biological children, and have so far raised individuals who are now well placed in various spheres of living. AWLO Pledged to support the Global Foundation for Orphans, through the organization’s #1Mother1Child Project.
The Apex of celebrations was the annual AWLO Induction/End of Year Dinner which began with a welcome address by AWLO Founder, Hon. Elisha Attai, who recounted the success of the organization in 2016. He reiterated AWLO’s commitment to advancing the leadership status of women in Africa, and unraveled the organisation’s plans to open a finishing School of Leadership come 2017.
His speech ushered in the Keynote Speaker of the day, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State. She was visibly impressed by the deliverables of AWLO, and noted that they were in line with her developmental prospects of women empowerment in Rivers State.
The dinner also had special features such as, the unveiling of the ‘Special End of the Year Edition’ of AWLO Magazine which chronicles AWLO’s milestones of 2016, and BOT Awards to honor outstanding service by members, coordinators, and partners of AWLO.
Recognized with such awards were: Best Youth Leader 2016; Gugulethu Makhari- AWLO Youth Council President South Africa, Best Africa Coordinator 2016, Mrs. Ajoke Enebeli- AWLO Rivers State Chapter Coordinator Nigeria, Best USA Coordinator 2016. Winners are Mrs. Etop Okokon USA VP, AWLO Media Partner of the Year; AIT.
The event would not have been complete without the induction and decoration of the new members and patrons of AWLO. This part was undertaken by the AWLO Secretary General Barr. Emem Daniel, who welcomed new members on board, and urged them to stay committed to the vision of the organization. The inductees also pledged their allegiance to the organization.
The AWLO Annual Induction Dinner had in attendance numerous personalities namely: Hon. Elisha Attai; President/Founder of AWLO, The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, Dr. Violet Arene; AWLO Global Youth Matron/BOT Member, Mrs. Etop Okokon; AWLO USA Vice President, Mrs. Ajoke Enebeli; AWLO Rivers State Chapter Coordinator, Mrs. Maureen Omeibe; AWLO Lagos State Chapter, Magistrate Helen Umana; AWLO Akwa Ibom State Chapter, and others.
